Andy Serkis voices chimpanzee in new PETA video

17 11 2016

Planet of the Apes star and director Andy Serkis has lent his voice to a new PETA US video, telling the story of a chimpanzee living in isolation at a roadside zoo.

The video supports PETA's campaign against the DeYoung Family Zoo, which has allegedly violated the Endangered Species Act by keeping chimpanzees in isolation from their species. Serkis commented 'I've obviously over the years become very connected to stories and the lives of the great apes in our world, and this story really blew my mind... here we have a chimpanzee shipped to a small family zoo, where he's now kept in a cage, completely isolated, unable to socialize, living a very lonely and miserable existence, and it just broke my heart. It's the same as treating a human being the same way – it really is'. The video can be viewed at http://www.peta.org/blog/andy-serkis-voices-lonely-chimpanzee/.
